Weds 14th Mar – Bearings and Trigonometry

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To use trigonometry ratios to Solve Bearings problems.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to use your knowledge of trig ratios to solve a variety of bearings problems

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Can you find a solution to this problem by drawing it accurately and measuring.

A ship sails 80km on a bearing of 073°, it then changes direction and sails for 240km on a bearing of 165°.

How far south has it travelled from its starting point?

How far east has it travelled from its starting point?

LESSON: Go over above question step by step to show what needs to be measured (or calculated) to solve the problem.

Students to have a go at questions in Ex 12N in Higher Text book.
