SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to round numbers to 10, 100, 1000 and the use the estimations to solve problems

STARTER:

Explain why these calculations must be wrong:

  1. 23 x 24 =1053
  2. 19 x 59 = 121

Estimate the answers to these calculations

  1. (21.3 + 48.7)/6.4
  2. 31.2 x 48.5
  3. 359 ÷ 42

LESSON: Show how to use inverse operations to check answers

EG Is 450 ÷ 6 = 75

Is 310 – 59 = 249

Is 1320.7 ÷ 23.9 = 97.35
