Today we are going to do lots of arithmetic questions to get you 'warmed up' for maths with Me
Open up the first page and put todays date – 7th September 2011 and the title Number Work. (You MUST put a title and the date EVERY LESSON)
LESSON OBJECTIVE: To improve times table knowledge and ability to do sums in your head. (You must copy the LESSON OBJECTIVE into your book every lesson)
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be very successful today if you get all the questions correct in each of the batches of questions, only one or two mistakes will be successful
LESSON. Make a list from 1 to 20 down your page each time we start a set of questions:
Set 1: Adding two single digits 5 seconds per question, check answers
Set 2: Adding two two digit numbers – 10 secs per question, check answers followed by a discussion on ways to make these sums a little easier
Set 3, as set 2 using new techniques, Check answers. Did you do better than last time?
Set 4: Subtracting 1 digit numbers – 4 secs – Check answers
Set 5: Subtracting two digit numbers-10 secs, Check Answers followed by discussion on techniques to speed up
Set six as set 2, Check answers – did you improve?
Set 7: Multiplication tables practice (up to 9 x) – 5 secs, Check Answers. Discussion on how to learn the difficult times tables – 6,7,8,9
Set 8: Multiplying a 1 digit number by a two digit number, check answers. Look at ore questions like this and pause to get ways of doing them in your head from students
