Weds 16th Jan – More work on Estimating

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To use estimations to help work out approximate answers to problems

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to solve problems quickly using estimations

STARTER: Write down the approximate answers to the following questions

  1. 47 x 89
  2. 36 x 117
  3. 237 x 450
  4. 790 ÷ 38
  5. 178 ÷ 47
  6. (43 + 27) x 28
  7. (217 – 48) x 12.3
  8. (645 x 28) ÷ (34.7 + 62.3)
  9. 23 packets of crisps at 53p per packet
  10. 2 magazines at £3.45 each plus a 90p Newspaper for 6 days

Use a calculator to work out the exact answers to answer all of the above
